Ilhicamina: The Birth of a Manauia Tonalnan
« Thread Started on Sept 16, 2004, 6:40pm »

My earliest memories go back to about the time I learned to walk. Even then I was already training to be a Manauia Tonalnan. Or at least the poeple at the temple of Eveleen were preparing me to commence training. I will start this story at the moment I started my physical training.

I entered the temple as I did every morning. Still I felt different. This would be the first day of my training to be a Manauia Tonalnan, Defender of the Mother of Light, Eveleen. As I walked in I silently found my place in the morning ritual and started my prayers. As soon as they were over, the high priest came and beckoned me to follow him to the courtyard of the temple.

As I entered the temple courtyard I did not see any weapons, the weapons that I did expect to be part of my training. So I asked the high priest. He answered: "They will be a part of your training when you are ready. Your master will tell you when you are. Just listemn to what he says and follow his orders without questioning them."

Just as the door on the other side of the courtyard swung open, I thought they were kidding me. In the dooropening was my own father. My father was going to train me? Then why would I have to come to this temple? I could do my training at home!

"I am ready to start my training, father," I said to him. His eyes turned dark and angry and he shouted back at me: "I will be called master! Here I am not your father, I am the one who is training you in the arts of being a Manauia Tonalnan!" That outburst rocked me in my boots. Hesitating and unsure I replied: "Y...yes master."

And so my father, or he wanted me to call him, my master started my training. He sat down and told me to follow his example. He crossed his legs and put his hands on his knees. He closed his eyes and told me to empty my mind. I tried and I tried but I could not get my mind to not have any thoughts.

We sat there for hours and hours in a row. Day after day, week after week, until after about two and a half months I succeeded in emptying my mind. As my master noticed I was in complete comfort and 'meditation', as he called it, he ruthlessly awoke me out of my trance to say that we could finally get one step further in my training.

My story will be continued later. I will tell more of my background when I get back to my writing.
